Fortunately, I'm in the position to pick and choose the jobs I take, and I turn down probably more work than I take. And it's *me* who is asking the (qualifying) questions when potential customers call, not the reverse! If it's something I don't want to do, I will refer them to a fellow tech. I used to kick myself when folks wouldn't ask a price, and then, (since I wasn't the most expensive) they would see the bill and say, "Is that all?" Oy! I’ve got 30 years experience and I’m very good at what I do.” I may even at that point, if it feels like they aren’t going to schedule, go ahead and recommend some of the cheaper tuners. I still end up getting most of those calls, but I do lose some. You have to be willing to lose some if you are priced on the high end.
