yes, and particularly if these hammers weren't prepped well as you say, did
they do ANY tapering?  A glance at the hammers will give you a rough idea
how much material has been removed.  If the hammers weren't tapered, coved
or tailed well, there may be a substantial amount of weight to be removed.
