Tom,

I think you might have accidently misprinted the first inversion in your post. You have it listed as ECG...shoud be EGC.

5/3 Chord: Root of C is: C-E-G. (creates a 5th interval between C and G, and a 3rd between C and E.
6/3 Chord: denotes the 1st Inversion of C is: E-G---C. (creates a 6th interval between E and C, and a 3rd between E and G).
6/4 Chord: denotes the 2nd Inversion of C is: G---C-E. (creates a 6th between G and E, and a 4th between G and C)

(I wrote the chords above with spaces to give example also of the finger general finger spacing (shape of the chords).

Here's a quick little explaination of inversions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inversion_%28music%29

The '6' indicates a first inversion of the chord, e. a CEG major chord would be ECG as spelled from the bottom. A '64' indicates a second inversion, i.e. a CEG chord would be spelled GCE as spelled from the bottom.

  Enjoy!

  Tom

  For all you theory majors

What does a 6 under the bass cleff mean?

What does a 64 under the bass cleff meam?

I used to know, but that was 45 years ago in college
