I also use super glue. But the secret is to use two coats on the felt. When I first used it the felt soaked up the glue, and the joint was starved, and was hit and miss. Since i started to put it on the felt first, then reapply to the felt and wood later once the first coat on the felt had set. I have had no problem with failure. I use a vise to hold the hammer felt in place, so it has some tension. I also use curved wooden parts flat on one side to be square with the vise jaw. Just cut out of scrap hardwood.
