Hi Laura,

PianoCD

I hope I got all this right.

When you got there the CD player was not working. The initial phone call indicated that there was a CD stuck in the CD drive. Someone possibly took the cover off the player and removed the CD. I’ve done this when two CD’s were inserted, one on top of the other since the first one didn’t eject properly. Indicating that they all worked previously is worth looking into. If one CD works, the CD drive and control box is fine. Check the “faulty” CD’s on another system that you know works. If the CD drive was damaged, it may have damaged all the CD’s except the one that was stuck in there ............ perhaps. Look for scratches on the “media” .... the shiny surface of the CD itself. Maybe you could take the control box and all the CD’s to another player and check them that way.

If the control box works OK on another system (like the other technician’s player) then the control box is fine. There’s other issues in the player system not working which couldn’t be found with a non-functioning CD control box in the first place.

Software upgrades have caused this problem for me in the past however it’s been many years. I suggest you re-install the software upgrade with the latest version, free for the asking, from PianoDisc before doing anything else. You may have a compatibility issue with the older CD’s. The new upgrade should accept both the old and the new CD’s. It’s very easily done. You simply insert the CD in the player and follow the instructions. Bring a headset (headphones, eighth inch stereo plug) in case they don’t have speakers on they’re system.

If you can’t get it to go that way, further service is required by a qualified PianoDisc technician. You’ll have to chalk up your time to the cost of tuition.

I keep an old 128+ control box handy for such calls. I can rule out the rest of the player, erase error messages held in queue, and a host of other commands that the PianoCD control box can’t do.

Lar
