This past Saturday, the Honolulu Symphony Chorus, in which my wife and I sing, performed Carl Orff's Carmina Burano. But instead of orchestra, we were accompanied by two pianos and percussion. I am also on the Board of Directors, and I volunteered to tune both pianos.

We had a Yamaha CFIII and a Baldwin SD10. I tuned both on Friday prior to the dress rehearsal, and again on Saturday, prior to the concert. It took me two hours to do both on Friday, and almost that long on Saturday, because, if you can imagine, the pianos take a beating. Both pianos were basically on pitch, but they get used a lot, and I wanted to make sure every note was dead on.

But I loved it. It's the first time in over 5 and a half years I had worked on 9' pianos. It felt so good to sink my teeth into a couple of good pianos. It seemed like I was back at the university again. Back in the saddle, so to speak. A great feeling. The kudos from the both pianists, (piano profs at the university), the director, and other chorus members, helped, too.
