Hi, Ruth!
Best wishes for New Year!
this is Isaac,the West Coaster..
once upon a time a was in a huge storage building at Warner Bros.
Studios in Burbank- Los Angeles.
The basement the size of a 3/4 football filed was filled with pianos of
every shape, uprights and Grands, playing and gutted..
All of those pianos were painted, they were used in movies in the
30-40-50...
they were totally useless, exept memorabilia for some people..
about 2 years ago I went on another lot and they had a collection of square
pianos, I checked 2 for Joe Garrett...
But here, in L.A. I had come across many of those creatures..
I wish, I could have my camera then...
I wish, Pianotech List existed then, too.

My only advice to young technicians;
Before opening a painted piano-make sure the seal is broke..
Or run a sharp razor blade or screwdriver blade to CUT the paint to avoid
chunks of paint separating from the case part and be blamed for it..
Laura Olsen mentioned this type of encounter in her e-mail and , I'm sure,
a few more listers can share their horror stories.
Best wishes..
Isaac
