Maint. budget

Hey List,

I'm curious about this one too. Its great having a budget to buy parts and
do the things that are necessary to keep the inventory in good order, but
you also need the time and manpower to do said work. In short, there must
be a balance. I estimate that a 20% increase in my parts budget would just
about get me to the limit of what we can do here in terms of rebuilding and
other benchwork given the amount of time we have inbetween tuning and other
daily maintenance. It would be great to have more money so we could
actually have an adequate parts inventory (I'm working on that), but I keep
thinking that any extra money I squeeze out will come directly from the
same place in their minds that funds for any pay increases for myself and
co-workers come from (1.5% total in the last 3 years). Anyway, here's the
scoop.

Cincinnati Conservatory

2 full-time technicians
210 Pianos, harpsichords, etc.
$9,400.00 annual parts and supplies budget
$4,600.00 special request funds from the Dean's special slush fund.Things
like reupholstering 10 artist benches, materials for special rebuilding
projects, refinishing , band saw, etc. This fund is entirely at the Dean's
discretion, and will vary from year to year depending on how much I ask for
and how much he feels obliged to give me.
