Reporting Structure

Mike,

Sorry I'm so late responding. I've been out of town working on pianos
for "real" money since last Wednesday. :-)
Here at the University of Houston, my immediate supervisor is the
Assistant Director of the School of Music. He's the one who, essentially,
runs the department on a day to day basis. The Director is involved
basically with the public relations/fund raising/politics aspect of the
SOM. He also does the yearly evaluations for everyone. I think usually he
just puts in good numbers, varying them a little to 'look' good and has me
read it and sign it. So far, knock on wood, it's always been a very high
rating because there haven't been complaints. I have a VERY understanding
faculty to work with. :-)
I now have a very respectable budget, so when I need something, I just
order it. If it's a "major" expenditure, such as a complete rebuilding job
that is being contracted out, that I have to get permission for. Otherwise,
I'm pretty much my own boss.

Regards,
Avery
