Horn troubles...or not?

Speaking of horn troubles,
      I tuned a S&S B for many years which was a very stable piano.  One
day, I was working on it and noticed the wedge was gone from behind the
horn.  In fact, it was no where to be found so it must have been missing
for many years, perhaps forgotten when the piano was rebuilt long before
I began tuning it.  Interesting that this piano was so stable without
it.
