Grand half stick

Take a half inch dowel, cut to length, round one end and cut a wedge in
the other end. and get a can of black flat black paint and paint it then
put some felt on the wedge end.  You have a short stick.

Alternative idea.  Take a 2x4x6 and paint it black.  It can be turned
three different ways to get three different lid heights.  Works for
small ensembles.
