Pinblocks

Sure you need to drill Ray?

If the pins are original 2/0's, I would order a box of 3/0 and 4/0 Denro
pins (my pref.), and repin as per usual.

In my experience the 3/0's have been perfect (you did say the blocks were
good), with few having to be upsized to 4/0's.

If reaming is what you have in mind, my first recommendation is don't. If
things don't go well, you will be missing the original holes (uniformly
sized and round) very much!

If ream you must, I suggest a variable speed portable drill, with the fluted
reamers (Pianotek) made for that purpose. This will provide the feeling you
are "following" the original hole, rather than creating a new one.

However, why not try some replacement pins first, you might really like the
results.

best regards, and good luck

Dear list,

Anyone have a good way to drill pinblocks while in the piano? I have a
couple of Steinways where the pinblock is in good shape but needs oversize
pins. I have heard about table drill configurations where the drill can be
mounted over the pinblock area on a sliding rail. Any ideas?
