I have never been accused of being the most observant person in=
the world. I'm just not as aware visually as I am aurally. I=
was just working on the actions of a couple of our newer=
Steinways and for the first time, noticed that they keys didn't=
have the maple insert at the balance rail hole. A couple of=
weeks ago I worked on an "L" and a "D" (both serial numbers >=
500,000) and the "D" had a long maple top plate under the button=
that I'm sure was to help prevent flex on those long keys. The=
"L" didn't have that plate, but both of them were just plain on=
 the bottom.

Speaking of changes, when did Steinway change from .146 front=
rail pins to these .128s they are using now? Did all this come=
about when they started using the Kluge keys with the wider=
 profile?

Inquiring minds and all that............

dave
