Michigan State U. Position still open

Hi List,
Couldn't resist commenting.
I was one of the "two that didn't work out".....

THEY failed MY interview process by mis-quoting the salary over over the
phone,
and offering $9K less at the negotiating table. ( After I spent over $2000
travelling there with my family on short notice,
so my wife could be part of the decision process)....but who's counting?
:-)

I'm amazed/shocked at the amount of money offered versus the
skills/experience desired.
I'm equally amazed at the money we settle for as technicians, after honing
our skills for so many years.

If this package is so attractive, there should be no trouble in finding a
suitable person for the gig, right?
Talk about a "new experience" ?? I've never been so glad to be
self-employed, and running my own business.
DO I sound bitter? Hope not, I just feel stupid for not sniffing this out
over the phone in the first place.

By the way, the other tech is Bill Schneider, an EXCELLENT technician. If
it were not for the money
issues, I would be honored to be working side by side with him!

Best Regards,

Hello fellow CAUTs,
Cc: Sarah Blanck

I was just asked to re-list the position at Michigan State. They did not
have a large pool of applicants on the first go around, and the two they
brought in did not work out for them. Seems like a good opportunity for
someone...

Here is the new listing:

Piano Tuner: Michigan State University School of Music. Position requires
proven quality aural concert tuning and piano rebuilding experience.
Desired qualifications include: at least two years of college, technical or
vocational school in music, music technology, or a related program; three to
five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work
experience tuning, maintaining, repairing and rebuilding concert grand
pianos and related stringed keyboard instruments or an equivalent
combination of education and experience; and previous employment in a school
or department of music.

Responsibilities include coordination of the piano technician area; tuning
and maintaining approximately 200 pianos including the grand pianos reserved
for applied piano majors and the studio pianos of the applied performance
faculty; on a regular basis, replace action parts, file hammers, regulate
actions, and voice; concert tuning and maintenance for the Wharton Center
for Performing Arts; concert tuning for pianos used for faculty recitals.
For an application visit http://www.hr.msu.edu/HRsite/, select Hiring/Job
Posting, Support Staff forms, or visit us at 1407 S. Harrison, Room 110
Nisbet, East Lansing, MI. Refer to posting #C40094. Closing date is 9/30/04.
Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
MSU is an affirmative action/equal opportunity institution.

Take care,
Scott
