What Richard Brekne says is a good suggestion.  Your a University Technician, so your
credibility is established.  Even the department faculty probably seek advice from each other
about their own problems.  You can just imagine the posturing that goes on there. You can take amusement that Mark Twain once said  "An expert is someone from out of town".
