[CAUT] I am a genius.

Hey Michelle,

How I dealt with it:

When I was on staff at Illinois Wesleyan, I would send out a friendly memo
every August to the rest of the faculty and staff where I let my "rules" be
known--requesting service, etc. I also included a bit about not
interrupting me while I was working explaining that getting in and out of
classrooms, studios and recital halls can be tricky. It worked well and I
had very good rapport with the faculty.

I never had a problem with the students--if any came to me, I would simply
tell them when I would be done and turn back to my work.

I had to smile when my replacement called me and reported that the head of
the piano faculty had said of me, "Barbara demanded respect." Hmmm, does
that mean I was a b****? Nah--I just trained them well......except for one
fellow who took five years to catch on--and just before I left he said, "You
can't move away, I just started doing what you wanted!" :-)
