Hi Ric, I worked with Bostons for about 8 years or so when I was doing a lot of dealer prep for our local S&S dealer. My knowledge of these pianos is a bit dated, but my general feeling about these instruments is that they are overall weak with poor projection and very poor sustain especially in the 5-7th octaves. I would say the same about the grands. I've worked on dozens of Bostons (verticals and grands) over the years and only one 7' grand stands out as a good instrument to me. Touch wise they are fine. I'd take a Yamaha P22 any day over a Boston vertical. And I think Kawai grands are a much better instrument. My only complaint about Kawais is a tendency for their pinblocks to have a mushy feel.
