Fred, Greg, and all the ships at sea,
The slide hammer works great. A cheap dent puller for the 
slide weight (start with Harbor Freight or the like), and a 
rod that can be threaded to fit the Vise-Grip, and you're 
there. Easy enough to make, and very effective.
