I agree on the 2mm bit. This shank top relationship tossed around here 
is a new one on me, and seems flawed from the get go because it doesn't 
assure exactly this end result.  Where did that (shank top / third of 
the check) thingy come from ?

    Back check height, I have not gone wrong with setting the height to
    even-with or 2 mm
    below the tail at drop position.

    Angle, 72 degrees from key stick. That's the leather face, not the
    wood rear profile.

    That's my recipe for success.
