Actually, misses depend not on keydip, but aftertouch. If a pianist
wants an extremely shallow keydip, it is a simple enough matter to raise the
hammerline and slightly move the backchecks proximally to maintain the same degree
of checking insurance as before. The tech may need to add additional "rest
felt" to prevent the action from capsizing, but there is no need to lose the
checking dependability.
