Barbara - Are you gluing the cloth or the wood? One of the best tips that I gleaned from Spurlock's system was to use a popsicle stick to apply the glue to the cloth. Using the stick instead of the brush gives me much better control over the glue. Getting a consistent depth of cloth takes a little practice, but after doing a couple of sets it's no longer a problem for me. I suspect that this system will never be as fast as the Bushmaster, though. - Mark Dierauf -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Richmond [mailto:piano57 at insightbb.com] Sent: Saturday, November 04, 2006 10:36 PM To: College and University Technicians Subject: Re: [CAUT] RE : key bushings Thanks, Marcel. Someone else suggested that to me privately, also. Believe me, I tried it and other positions--working at other heights--anything I could think of. Maybe it was hard because it was a set of S&S D keys that are long, I'm short and the backchecks were in the way and if I got the keys low enough, my back hurt. A backache is one thing, but the real problem was that I couldn't get the glue or the depth of the cloth right--too much glue, too little glue, sometimes getting glue where it I didn't want it... The depth was my biggest concern (well, besides having the bushings fall out)--with one caul, it's no problem for me and I can comfortably sit at my work bench while I'm working. I guess I must have been doing something horribly wrong. On the other hand, I have all these sets of single cauls that I don't need to replace. ;-) Barbara Richmond, RPT the oddball near Peoria, Illinois PS I prefer using a C fork, too. <big grin> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marcel Carey" <mcpiano at videotron.ca> To: "'College and University Technicians'" <caut at ptg.org> Sent: Saturday, November 04, 2006 7:21 PM Subject: [CAUT] RE : key bushings > Barbara, > > I like the Spurlock system but, I have to use the same hand and can only > bush from right to left.
