All, Below is an announcement from Eric Schandall regarding a new Steinway Technical Academy offering. Don McKechnie Piano Technician Ithaca College dmckech at ithaca.edu 607-274-3908 The C. F. Theodore Steinway Technical Academy Extended Technical Seminar The C. F. Theodore Steinway Technical Academy is pleased to offer a new, two week long Seminar at our manufacturing facilities in New York City. This Extended Technical Seminar, while similar in content to the Comprehensive and Tone-Regulating Seminars, provides additional time to integrate methods and techniques for an effective and efficient use of resources. It is designed to stand on its own if one plans to attend this session only, or as an alternate way to combine two classes at once and then continue with the remaining Seminars. Who will want to come? Those technicians who specialize in field and showroom tuning, regulation and voicing, and whose work does not involve reconditioning and concert work. Some positions do not require all four sessions of the traditional Academy Seminars. Assistants in institutional settings. Those who eventually will intend to take all four seminars as their technical responsibilities grow What is the curriculum? The content is similar to the Comprehensive and Tone-Regulating Seminars but combined in a two-week period. This will have the added benefit of greater continuity of instruction and supervision, an important aspect of developing technical skills. Fine regulation, tuning and tone regulating will be taught, along with the opportunity for participants to fully prepare their pianos. We will also highlight the same skills as they relate to Boston and Essex pianos in the Steinway family of pianos. The course will include in-depth tours of the factory and a visit to the Concert Department at Steinway Hall and an available concert venue in Manhattan. Will the original four Seminars still be available? Yes. This Seminar is simply an optional way to attend the Comprehensive and Tone Regulating Seminars for the reasons noted above. Participating technicians will be eligible for assessment to attend the Damper and Concert Preparation Seminars after completion of the Extended Seminar. When? This year’s Seminars will be: March 12-23, 2007 April 30, - May 11, 2007 What will it cost? The cost for this Seminar is $2,150, and includes tuition, hotel accommodation, and transportation to and from the hotel and factory, and lunches for each weekday of the seminar.
