[CAUT] killer shanks

I used to do tapering of shanks also, but in more recent years decided 
against it.  Who knows for sure.  I like Renners idea of an intermediate 
section between the thin treble and regulars, and wish that was extended 
a bit further than only 8-9 shanks.   I found that thinner shanks in the 
bass were more prone to twisting, or maybe it just seemed that way.
