[CAUT] CAUT credential vs. academic program?

Aren't there 3 Ph'ds among the some-odd 3000 or so CAUT technicians?
Somehow, its comforting to know the bar isn't set at the doctoral level.
Yet.

The highest academic level in Germany is the Masters equivalent here in the
US - "Klavierbaumeister"
Three and a half years apprenticeship and one year "Masters" "schooling".
All this schooling is done at a single school in Germany, tailored only to
piano/organ construction.

(If forced to label the academic "level" describing the "Klavierbaumeister"
- it is the "rank/level" and relationship that an "architect" has, in the
conventional sense, of building, engineering and constructing
housing/dwellings.)

If a doctoral level of education/study is needed/wanted, you are forced to
enter fields where doctoral programs are available. Since piano/organ
construction touches on literally every doctoral program imaginable, it is
your choice to pick doctoral studies/fields that you feel best represents
the "bulk" of piano building.

It's all there - engineering, chemistry, physics, musicology, forestry etc.
The theoretical side of qualification is easy - just test on one or two
standard reference books. The "hands-on" side of qualification is quite
difficult. "All-rounders" vs. "specialists" - "jack-of-all-trades" vs.
"master-of-one".

And then theres' the specific needs of each and every University.

Germany has the right idea. Just one school. Just one 'minimal' standard
And there you have to "graduate". There, a "minimum" is met.
An employer simply looks at the schools program. You are issued a
journeymans permit(Gesellenbrief), and then and practitioners
permit(Meisterbrief).
