Swimming pool tender?  They don't know what one is so they certainly
don't have one with which to compare this salary.  If one looked at the
average salary of a starting professor at SIU one would see what a joke
that salary is...unless, of course, they provide 100% cost of premium
health insurance and pay the equivalent of the salary into a retirement
or IRA account!

They may have a "School of Music" but they sure have a lot to learn.
That salary is obscenely low!

Maybe the reason they are still looking is the fact that they are
willing to pay the swimming pool tender 60% more per hour than the piano
technician...pathetic!

Musical Instrument Technician II
Salary: $2395.00 per month

Department: School of Music

1. Four years of work experience in the repair and maintenance of
musical
instruments. Successful completion of formal training programs in the
repair
and maintenance of musical instruments may be substituted for up to one
year
of the above experience.

The School of Music at SIUC is searching for a full-time piano
technician to
provide tuning and service to maintain performance pianos at
professional
standard as required for recitals, concerts, auditions, and recordings.
This
person will also oversee piano maintenance, repairs and improvements,
maintain the piano inventory history, and rebuild piano actions and
other
keyboard instruments as needed.  Knowledge of tuning/maintenance of
organ
would be an asset.  Work schedule is determined on the basis of class
and
performance schedules.  Likely to vary from normal business hours.
Evening
and/or weekend work may be required.

Teach a class in basic piano technology to piano students as needed.  

Minimum two years experience in a College/University setting or piano
house.
Experience with aural tuning, advanced temperament checks and
techniques.
Registered Piano Technician Certification through Piano Technician Guild
or
equivalent.  Bachelor of Music degree highly preferred or general music
background desirable.

Superb interpersonal skills and ability to sensitively communicate in
writing and in person with multiple entities, organizational skills and
the
ability to anticipate performance needs are a necessity.
