Our Piano faculty director suggested just that. a GTA to administer the checking and water additions for said pianos. It might work....if....we get good, responsible students that will come in every Saturday or Sunday to do it! I will still have to monitor the situations as they will not always follow through! I've narrowed the probable "fix" to just the piano faculty and practice grands. That brings it down to just 25 DC units which I've suggested to our director. I told him the installation time for 70 would be excessive (at first), and that maintaining just 25 would be a bit more beleivable in time spent making sure they're "on-line". There is in no way that we will hire another part-timer.. I already asked before this economic slump/recession kicked in! We have a "no-hire-freeze" at UNL until the recession is behind us! And even then, I'll never get an assistant until a new building is built! I think a more realistic option is a work-study student. Not without problems, as college age kids are not always the most responsible, and scheduling is hard with classes and rehearsals. But work study is subsidized by the federal government so that the cost to the department is typically under minimum wage. I would think a 10 hour a week work study could handle the situation, with the tech overseeing and covering when need be.
