David,

Here are two versions. A small one for the kit. Bigger one for the shop. (The big one has a hole large enough to shove a shank in and the screw cuts a trough for glue release. Multi tool)
Each one simply has a screw and a small hole by the screw for the string.

I have always duplicated hitchpin loops on single strings with my round needle nose and a vice-grip.  It seems to me there was a simple tool using a dowel and a screw?   I'm talking about field work here.
