There probably was glue on the dowels but maybe a snug fit didn't leave room for excess. I use hammer trimmings with no leather. As far as the pedal 'raviolis' go, they're extra work with no benefit. As with back rail cloth, a double layer glued, tacked or stapled only on the front edge is quieter than one piece glued fully across. Color the rear edge with a black marker. -- Regards, Jon Page
