That should read "rather than overpull."

I find that on pianos with rendering problems or very steep counterbearing
angles it's often better to approach the target pitch from below rather
overpull slightly and settle the pitch back down to where you want it. It
does require a slightly different hammer technique and position as you don't
want the pin flexing back toward you at all. A very conscious rotary motion
with even a slight forward press (sounds like a golf swing) and a closer to
12:00 hammer position.

I suspect it has less to do with pin manipulation techniques than a
consideration for just how much the pitch is changing between tunings and
how to approach the pitch change. But that's me.

Bill, Please tell us what the difference of technique is. As I suspect
impact vs pull-push technique, which one is used on which piano.
Thanks,

and I don't know if it is just me or it really is the instruments. I tune
for a university that has two model EN 9'2" Bechsteins. I have found that I
get better tuning stability if I use different tuning technics with them.
The one in the concert hall I tune one way and the one in the recital hall I
tune a different way and they stay in tune better. If I tune both the same
way, one will not have the tuning stability that the other one has. When I
tune the B in my client's home, I use a different technic. It seems strange
but it works.
