Hi Dennis, Take it apart and lightly sand the entire cylinder. David suggested lubricating it with white lithium grease, but I didn't have any and took a chance with Protek Prolube. It seemed to do the trick..so far. You don't need to worry about the collar. You should probably recalibrate the pedal. I encourage you, again, to call Yamaha if you need any further support about that process. That's what they are there for and they are very good at helping. jeannie Jeannie Grassi, RPT Bainbridge Island, WA _____ From: caut-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:caut-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Dennis Johnson Sent: Thursday, June 10, 2010 8:14 AM To: caut at ptg.org Subject: Re: [CAUT] Pedal noise on DC3 Thanks Jeannie- Just to be clear though, do you mean sanding just the visible part of that metal cyclinder? Do you mean just wipe dry or what specific kind of lubrication? I presume the cyclinder I am referring to is the same solenoid you mention. I believe there is some dark debris around the collar so this could be it, but wanted to clarify before proceeding. Do we do anything to the collar? I imagine at some point that should be replaced. thanks! Dave Durben recommended that I look at the pedal solenoid. If there was dark dust around the felt collar, it indicated that it should be cleaned, and lubricated, in addition to calibrating it. I took some 400 or 600 grit sandpaper to it and got it all shiny again. Squeak was gone and it moved much more feely. Problem solved. If you have problems, talk to Yamaha and they will help you with it. We have a mysterious and ongoing noise complaint from one such pedal that I have never personally been able to confirm for about a year, but yet the complaints continue. ??? I have eliminated everything from the normal acoustic operation, so what next? I was about to suggest it could the shoes, but didn't dare. I do seem to feel some resistance in that cylinder but can't confirm if that's the cause and wouldn't know what to do if it was. ... This unit dates from maybe 6-7 years ago. It's not the latest model with one simple adjustment screw in the center under the cover plate. thanks, Dennis Johnson No virus found in this incoming message.
