What it does I > don't know...read the article...great book, worth having. Yes, I have Steve's book. Better yet, Steve is coming to Albuquerque Friday to give a one day seminar, so I'll make a point to ask him personally, see what he has to say. Kathy's method seems like a way to spread the trichords. There are a few possibilities, one of which is to make the cut down the center deeper with a sharp knife and/or insert thread in the groove. Other issues are whether the two "feet" are even in width, and whether the strings are evenly spaced and level, how long the feet are, how soft. All good stuff, but it doesn't address dampers that work essentially "perfectly" except with u c. Regards, Fred Sturm fssturm at unm.edu http://www.youtube.com/fredsturm
