In the bass section hammers on a Steinway rebuild, the hammers did not get
enough bore angle on the original drilling. This was not noticed until the
hammers had been arced. Now after removing the shanks and plugging the hole,
they need to be redrilled. However, with the tails arced, they won't sit in the
boring jig in a way that will enable a 90 degree rake.
I adapted the jig to line up the center line of the hammer core at a 90 degree
angle but this still did not produce 90 deg., I guess because I'm still
referencing off the rounded top of the hammer.
Any ideas on how to get the 90 degree. rake angle? I think my jig is similar to
the Brooks jig. It works well for normal circumstances.
Thanks,
Bob Hull
