[CAUT] protection form heat/cooling sources

Dear list,
What type of methods have you used to protect pianos in small practice  
rooms from nearby heat and/or cooling sources?  And how do you keep  
staff and students from moving pianos across carpeted flooring where  
they are inevitably placed right next to windows, a/c and heaters?
