>>PS One thing I have relearned in the getting ready stages for the bridge >>capping is how enjoyable and useful sharp planes and chisels can be. One of the most enjoyable and interesting classed I've taken at a PTG convention was the Rappaport's sharpening class. I'd been working with reasonably dull chisels for years and hadn't realized just what it takes to do the job. Oddly enough, talking to various craftsmen I've found that very few of them actually _know_ how to sharpen a chisel or even a scraper. In this vein, I've found a place here called the "European Sharpening Shop" which will sharpen almost anything including serrated blades. They sell a neat little plane that uses a thin blade much like a razor blade rather than an iron, which is reversed when dull and then discarded. The plane is quite light compared to a standard block plane, and it comes in various sizes. I'll find out the maker if anyone is interested.
