Dale,

By far the best source of info on historical temperaments is Dr. Owen
Jorgensen's book: Tuning: containing The Perfection of Eighteenth-Century
Temperament, The Lost Art of Nineteenth century Temperament, and The Science
of Equal Temperament, complete with instructions for Aural and Electronic
Tuners (commonly known just as "Tuning"). copyright 1991 Michigan State
University Press. ISBN 0-87013-290-3. Thisbook is generally available
through book stores as a special order item or from several of the supply
houses.

Several other books also cover the subject although not in near as much
detail, such as Barbour's Tunings and Temperaments (Da Capo press) or Jean
Denis' Treatise on Harpsichord Tuning (Cambridge University Press). However,
the Jorgensen book is far ahead of any of these.
