John,

Perhaps not what you want to know, but...

Soft rubber:
- harder to push;
- develops flat spots if left in the same spot;
- (which makes it even harder and 'lumpy' to push due to "memory");
- good floor "adhesion" (performers not required to chase the piano);
- replacement required more often.

Hard rubber/"composition":
- opposite from above;
- leaves scuff marks;
- tends to break off in chunks.

Is this right, or am I tired again?

I prefer the soft rubber, in spite of maintenance, OR the accuracy of
the above statements.

     I'd like to hear what others have found works well for concert
grand "spider" casters. We have several sets in need of replacement and
have seen different types of casters in use on these. One is a hard
rubber, allowing for ease in rolling, another is more soft, requiring more
pushing power, but ends up staying where you put it!! I believe Colson
makes the hard rubber one. Thanks for all suggestions, and experiences.
