Just to add to this thread that Mr Kuerti began....it seems that alot of the concert pianists that come here, especially those from the NY/Russian/and Liszt traditions use the una-corda pedal alot and use various shift positions for tone colors.......while the viennese/german pianists don't seem to use it as much....it's a good idea to always check the voicing in the shift position(s) for evenness as well as when the action is not in shift position....if these are not new hammers and you are evening them out for concerts, you should voice the uneveness out of the shift positions first, as it will affect the non-shift voicing.... if you do it the opposite way, by the time you get to even out the shift position you could really do a number on the non-shift voicing you just did....
