Ed Foote rote, 4/5/96: <<Bill, are you using metric Forstner bits?? if so, where are they from?>> Nope, these are high speed twist drills from the J&L Industrial Supply Co. catalog (800-521-9520). Sizes .15-.29mm in .01mm increments, .30-.48 in 02.mm, .50-2.90mm in .05mm, 3-13.90 in .10mm (with .25 and .75 added), and14-17.50 in .25mm. (Lots'o stuff in this big catalog including Tom McNeil's spur gear hand chain hoist on p.839.) Forstner bits are for wood and I can't imagine the need for such tiny increments in wood which couldn't be met by twist drill instead of forstner. (Yeah, I know, for years I believed the guy down at Forstners'R'Us who said that holes for key leads couldn't be drilled with anything less.) If you're worried about the conical bottom of the hole, just have you local machinst regrind is as a spur bit. (Not that I ever got to that point myself.)
