yamaha broken strings: reply

Welcome to the list. In reply to the broken strings at the capa bar. It might
not be the fault of the piano, as much as the piano player. When player plays
loud, repetative music, the strings will heat up, and break (just like
bending a paper clip). If there is any corrosion on the strings, (from high
humidity), it will add to the problem.

If you think it is the player, one way to prevent strings from breaking is to
decrease the hammer blow distance and reduce the key dip. You will need to
make coresponding adjustments in the action, but the result will be that the
player will not have as much power in the key stroke. Less power will mean
less force on the string.
