Hi, Mary, and welcome! Flattened hammers will impart a more severe blow to strings than one shaped properly. Flattened and very hard hammers can cause premature string breakage. Reshaping the hammers and voicing them down will help, but metal fatigue has already set in so more strings will break as time goes on. Is this piano used more than the others? Is it used by a particularly heavy handed individual or group? Is is just one size of wire breaking? Newton nhunt@rci.rutgers.edu
