I would agree with Tom about the university system in general.  A tenured
professor I had last year for a grad class at a state university said she
was the last of a dying breed.  Soon there would be no more tenured  people.
My friend who has a MA in Music (ethnomusicology), a field with little
competition, is supposed to be grateful to be eeking out a meager existence
teaching at 4 different colleges, universities, and junior colleges,
supplementing her income teaching piano and playing flute/guitar duos.  I
guess this is what you have to look forward to, Newton.  (They save a lot of
money with her because none of them pays her any benefits or guarantees
ANTHING!)
