Greetings List, I have the task of repinning a 1974 Yamaha U3 with *very* inconsistent pins. I have done many a rebuild on older instruments, but this is my first Yamaha. My question lies in the threaded pins. Do I acquire larger threaded pins from Yamaha, or ream and repin with conventional cross-hatched pins? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to either process on Yamahas? The pins range from very snug (80+ in/lbs in both directions) to non-existent tension. There is no consistent pattern to the 'looseness', pinblock separations are not suspected. If I repin with Yamaha threaded pins, I'll need two or three different sizes, unless I ream and destroy the threaded grooves. Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob Kiddell R.P.T., P.T.G.
