My experience tells me the after either a few passes OR the "just go for
it" that the minor cracks will no longer be minor. :)
Try to sell them on a fix of the bass bridge. (Replacement best...repair if
necessary).  If they don't want to put the money into that important of a
(reasonably) minor repair, I would go for the "run..." option.

Either they have bought an old "junker" or "free to good home" in the
clasifieds and not gotten a techie to look it over for them or they have
grossly neglected their instrument,
and in either case they have to face reality that they have messed up.

I love using a "used car" analogy to the customer in this situation. Have
they not changed their oil in 150,000 mi. or did they buy a lemon with
200,000 and not have a mechanic look at it and are surprised that there
might be a repair bill?  :)
