Dear list --
A good customer's newly rebuilt 1959 Baldwin L
has developed a nasty
wooden-sounding tic on the first note in the tenor
section, located
somewhere in the damper assembly. (It goes away
when the right pedal is
depressed.)

Susan,
I have had a noise like that before, and found it to
be the damper head hitting the plate. I know you
said it looks far enough away from the strut, but so
did mine. Try putting a piece of bushing cloth or
something between the head and strut. If the noise
is still there, ok, I was wrong.
