That Grand Damper "Whing"Sound

Clip off the felt that extends below the strings.  This will minimize the
'bowing' and  prevent muting if the pedal is not fully depressed.

Get some good end nippers to do it inside the piano.

I prefer to cut them with sharp scissors before I install them.

I have often removed the dampers to trim them.
