Bass String Replacement

All at once is fine on a decent-quality instrument.  However:  even though
being "overly" cautious almost certainly
doesn't do any good, it can't possibly do any harm, either.   I usually
lower/replace/restore tension half of the bass strings, then do the other
half.   *Even though I know it isn't necessary*,   I just feel more
comfortable doing it this way, and it adds little or no appreciable time to
the job.

BTW, I agree with the tech who advised wholesale string removal only after
the replacements are in hand.  I have had the pleasure of receiving the
wrong strings (mis-tagged) from the *manufacturer* of a piano which was
still being made.  (The owner had spilled purple something into her 10 year
old grand, killing most of the bass strings.  She said it was Coke --
looked like Sloe Gin to me.   And no, that errant manufacturer/string
supplier wasn't Kawai.)
