Loose tuning pins in bass

Ted: I have used Superglue to tighten tuning pins with good results. I
have a customer whose ancient Steinway grand is dying note by note from
the bottom of the piano. The last time I went to tune the piano I
decided to try soaking the loose pinholes with thin Superglue, figuring
that I had nothing to lose. I let the treated pins set up while I tuned
the treble. Lo and behold, by the time I go down to the loose pins, the
glue had set up and the pins which previously had zero tightness now
were holding better than anything else in the piano, and I was able to
tune those notes and have them hold for the first time. How long this
treatment will last I don't know - time alone will tell. Patrick
