Rolland:

The US Marine Band bought a Steinway D (sight unseen) in 1968. It not only
had felt knuckles and was impossible to regulate, the board had negative
crown. The problem was solved by having the piano sent to Willis and Dave
Snyder, who did a fabulous job of remanufacturing that piano. I still
think it's one of the best pianos I've ever worked on. Marvin Hamlisch did
a lot of his rehearsing at Marine Barracks for his White House
performances, and it was a real struggle to keep him from asking the
president to have that piano moved down the street whenever they wanted
it!!! Anything short of parts replacement and serious attention to the
action geometry will probably not give good results. (Ka-ching! My two
cents is up.)
