In extensive threads on this subject over the last couple of years, the traditional Pinblock Restorer of choice was Garfields. Although usually diluted with an equal amout of denatured alcohol, the proportions may be varied. In the case of really loose pins, the first application can 2 parts Garfield's to I part alcohol, or even stronger. Similarly, in the case of loose pins with still-tight plate bushings, you can use a solution that is weaker than 1:1. Best in such a case however, is to put a small hole in the plate bushing ON THE KEYBOARD SIDE, which per- mits easier penetration of the PBR. If you find yourself buying or mak- ing Tuning Pin Tightener by the gallon, you really should consider up- grading the quality of the pianos you're working on! Les Smith lessmith@buffnet.net
