Wild strings and false beats

The most common source of wild and false strings is the bridge pin being
loose. A simple test is to put a screw driver on the offending pin and
push on it while striking the string. If the wildness disappears or
changes it is a loose pin.

The best solution is to use thin CA glue to file the pin hole entirely
by dripping down the pin and continue to do so until it is full. This
is a slow process so go slowly.

Second source is duplex scaling where one or more strings are almost
matched by an aliquot that produces a beat.

Solution is to find the offender and mute it out.

On new strings beats can be produced by strings not conforming to bridge
and pin. Rubbing down the string all the way to the bridge pin can
help.

There is a lot of information about this subject in the archives as
well.
